My Journey to Better Health and Why It Matters
Dec 11, 2024Today, I want to share a bit about my fitness journey, some challenges I’ve been tackling, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Stick with me because this could inspire you to make some changes in your own life.
Day 9: Feeling Lighter and Stronger
Let’s start with where I’m at. This morning, I weighed 188 pounds—down 0.6 pounds from yesterday. I’m feeling lighter overall, and the best part? My strength hasn’t dropped in the gym. That’s always been a big goal of mine: lose fat but keep my muscle.
I’ve been experimenting with fasting. I just completed a 24-hour fast, something I hadn’t done in years. I stopped eating at 9 PM one night and didn’t eat again until after 9 PM the next day. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I hit a new low of 185 pounds. That’s the lightest I’ve been in years, and I feel great.
Why I Took on a 24-Hour Fast
Fasting is something I used to do all the time back when I was coaching fitness in my early twenties. Over the years, though, I lost the willpower to stick with it. I’d get close to the 20-hour mark and give up. This time, I wanted to prove to myself that I could push through.
The fast wasn’t without challenges. Hunger kicked in a few times, but I stayed focused by drinking lots of water and sparkling water. I even went on a long walk—almost two hours—to get some cardio in. By the end, I was hungry and ready to eat, but the sense of accomplishment was incredible.
What I Ate After the Fast
When I broke my fast, I kept it simple: a pound and a half of lean ground bison, an apple, and a pear. That was it. It wasn’t a huge meal, but it was enough to refuel me and keep me on track with my goals.
The Bigger Picture: Why Looks Matter
Let’s talk about why I’m doing this. For the past 67 days, I’ve been leading a challenge in my Headman Nation group called “Headman Habits.” It’s all about building better routines and habits to improve every aspect of life.
For me, a big part of this has been getting lean and bringing out my best physique. Why? Because how you look signals your health. Whether we like it or not, people judge us by appearances. And more importantly, looking your best makes you feel your best.
This journey isn’t just about losing weight—it’s about reaching my full potential. I’ve always been into bodybuilding and building muscle, but now I’m focusing on getting lean while keeping the strength I’ve worked so hard for.
Tips for Improving Your Look
If you’re looking to make changes, start by setting a clear goal. What’s your dream image or ideal physique? Once you know that, take small steps toward it.
Here are a few tips:
- Focus on your diet: Lower your body fat by eating clean and sticking to a plan.
- Build healthy habits: Good hygiene, a sharp style, and even small things like whitening your teeth can make a big difference.
- Take your time: Transformation doesn’t happen overnight. Give yourself three to six months to see real results.
Why It’s About More Than Looks
Improving your health and appearance isn’t just about looking good for others—it’s about becoming the best version of yourself. When you take care of your body, you gain confidence and self-respect.
But here’s the thing: It’s not just about the physical. It’s about knowing who you are and leaning into your strengths. Stop trying to be someone you’re not. Instead, focus on becoming the best you.
